چکیده

The desert locust Schistocerca gregaria is a destructive pest for several crops, particularly which are considered as the main food sources human and animals. Much attention has been paid to use plant extracts or products controlling this pest. present study aimed investigate disturbing effect of Nimbecidine on phosphatase activity in S. gregaria. penultimate instar nymphs were treated, through fresh food, with 1.0 0.3% activities acid (ACP) alkaline (ALP) estimated last adults. most important results could be summarized follows. significantly promoted ACP haemolymph, irrespective stage, age, concentration. In addition, exhibited remarkable inducing enzyme fat bodies, regardless stage an exception late-aged was suppressed. Regarding ALP haemolymph adults, clearly displayed general reducing nymphal instar. An exceptional case promoting action detected newly emerged at higher respect indicated that induced but reduced

On the origin of the desert locust Schistocerca gregaria (Forskål) (Orthoptera: Acrididae: Cyrtacanthacridinae).

The locust genus Schistocerca (Stål) has a transatlantic disjunction, which has been controversial for more than a century. Among 50 species within the genus, only one species, the desert locust (S. gregaria Forskål), occurs in the Old World, and the rest occur in the New World. Earlier taxonomists suggested that the desert locust is a migrant from America, but this view was strongly challenged...

Effect of Nomolt on Differential and Total Haemocytes in the Desert Locust Schistocerca gregaria Forskal (Orthoptera:Acrididae)

The insecticidal action of Nomolt at various dosages against Schistocerca gregaria was employed for its effects on total haemocyte count (THC)and differential haemocyte count (DHC). The total counts after application of different concentrations from Nomolt were significantly decreased at 1,3, 5 days on 5 nymphal instar and up to 1day old adult males and females comparing with those of the untre...

Potential of the Desert Locust Schistocerca gregaria (Orthoptera: Acrididae) as an Unconventional Source of Dietary and Therapeutic Sterols

Insects are increasingly being recognized not only as a source of food to feed the ever growing world population but also as potential sources of new products and therapeutic agents, among which are sterols. In this study, we sought to profile sterols and their derivatives present in the desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria, focusing on those with potential importance as dietary and therapeutic...

In Search for Pheromone Receptors: Certain Members of the Odorant Receptor Family in the Desert Locust Schistocerca gregaria (Orthoptera: Acrididae) Are Co-expressed with SNMP1

Under given environmental conditions, the desert locust (Schistocera gregaria) forms destructive migratory swarms of billions of animals, leading to enormous crop losses in invaded regions. Swarm formation requires massive reproduction as well as aggregation of the animals. Pheromones that are detected via the olfactory system have been reported to control both reproductive and aggregation beha...

Comparative Effects of Certain Igrs on the Carbohydrates of Hemolymph and Fat Body of the Desert Locust, Schistocerca Gregaria (orthoptera: Acrididae)

Newly molted last (5th) instar of the desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria (Forsk.), was treated through fresh plant food with 2 concentrations: high (1000.0 ppm) or low (62.5 ppm) of 3 IGRs: pyriproxyfen, tebufenozide, and lufenuron. Carbohydrate content was determined in the hemolymph and in the fat body of the early-aged, mid-aged, and late-aged 5th instar, as well as of 1and 4-d old adult f...
